Whenever I need a good laugh, I know that I can easily find one in a person who thinks “Facebook bad, TikTok good”. Let’s see, Facebook is the big evil overlord that pilfers your personal information and shares it without your permission, but a Chinese company that does even worse is just damn skippy, “Otay Buttwheat”? Has it ever occurred to you why so many major online influencers make fun of TikTok and refuse to use it? What is it that they know, or what is it that you refuse to acknowledge? Can you say cognitive dissonance? I knew you could…
It’s certainly not a new concept. A person hates one company so much that they will intentionally embrace a worse alternative and convince themselves that they’re sending a message to the company that they hate (much like the libtards did by installing Biden). Unfortunately, they don’t realize that their message is falling on deaf ears. Neither Facebook nor YouTube care if you are on TikTok. They know that anything you upload to TikTok will eventually end up on their platforms “if it’s actually popular”. Then they’ll make money off of your work by using it as a tool to profile their own users’ interests for ad targeting. If it’s not actually popular enough, oh well, high-five on your effort for “trying”.
OK, so let’s say that you don’t care if Facebook and YouTube make money off your TokTok content. What about the fact that TikTok is owned by a Chinese company surrounded by endless reports of personal privacy violations? Are you actually saying that it’s only a bad thing if an American company does it, but no big deal if a Chinese company does it? You don’t even have to be uploading videos to TikTok for this to be happening, you just need to have an active account. They know your email address and what your interests are based on your viewing habits, you are now their product.
Wait, what? Their product? Yes, when it comes to free services, if it’s free, you now become the product that’s for sale. Do you ever read the “End User License Agreement” before you click that OK or “I Agree” button? No, you don’t, you’re only concerned with how the free service can benefit you. In all cases, once you provide content to one of these services, it’s no longer yours. You can bark and bitch about would-be copyrights all you want, but you’re the one who agreed to their terms of service in order to create an account there.
How much do you honestly trust a company’s promises when they’re based in communist China? If they actually said that they won’t share any of your account information or data that their AI collects on you, how much do you believe that claim? Who is policing their internal operations? A communist? Hell, that’s got to be an honest and sincere promise. Do you realize just how valuable your email address, other account info, interests derived from AI analysis of your viewing habits, the device that you are using, your location based on your IP address, etc, are? You are now their product!
Are you connecting the dots yet, or is cognitive dissonance still winning here? It seriously cracks me up how I can slam on Facebook and YouTube all day long around people and everybody agrees, but the moment that I start slamming on TikTok they get all quiet and act like I kicked their dog. Verifiable facts absolutely prove that you didn’t choose the lesser of two evils, but you continue to embrace the greater evil because you can’t bring yourself to admit that you fucked up. Can you say toxic relationship? I knew you could…
Do you still wonder why top influencers don’t use TikTok and make constant jokes about it? If so, then you’re simply not paying attention and don’t place as much value on your privacy and security as you say you do when delivering your anti-big-tech speeches. Printing out copies of all of your personal information and leaving those in random places around town would actually be safer than having a TikTok account, but you certainly won’t do that…Here’s yer sign…
